Greatest Snow on Earth — Ski Design (Current)

This bold two-tone plate pairs a rust-orange header bar carrying "UTAH" in thick white letters with a vivid sky-blue lower field depicting snow-capped mountain peaks. A stylized downhill skier in navy and light blue anchors the center, and the slogan "GREATEST SNOW ON EARTH" runs across the bottom. Utah's flagship plate centers on Delicate Arch — the iconic sandstone span from Arches National Park — rendered in vivid orange and red against a wide blue sky with scattered clouds. "UTAH" appears in bold brown letters at the top and the state's "LIFE ELEVATED" tourism slogan runs along the bottom in matching brown. The open white background keeps the arch front and center, making this the most recognizable of Utah's current designs.

United We Stand — Patriotic Design (Current)

This patriotic variant features a light gray background with "Utah" in flowing red script at the top. A full-color waving American flag occupies the left side with "In GOD We TRUST" lettered beneath it in navy. The plate numbers appear in oversized dark navy type on the right, and "UNITED WE STAND" runs across the bottom in red. Utah drivers can choose this design as an alternative to the scenery plates.

Ski Utah! — Previous Design

Utah's earlier standard plate kept things clean and white. A small blue skier silhouette appears at the top left, paired with the words "Ski Utah!" in red italic script. The plate numbers are set in large dark navy type, and "GREATEST SNOW ON EARTH" — Utah's longtime trademarked slogan — runs along the bottom in navy. This design remained on Utah roads for many years and still appears on vehicles whose owners haven't renewed to the newer designs.

How Rare Is It on the Road Trip Game?

Uncommon. Utah has a growing population of around 3.4 million, but it punches above its weight on major interstates thanks to its position on I-15 (the north-south spine of the Mountain West) and I-80. You'll spot them regularly on western road trips, but they won't come to you automatically on an East Coast drive.

Spotting Tip

Interstate 15 through Salt Lake City and Provo is your best bet — it sees consistent Utah-heavy traffic year-round. I-70 through central Utah and the U.S. Highway corridors leading into Arches, Zion, and Bryce Canyon also concentrate Utah plates, especially during spring and fall national parks season. Ski resort towns like Park City are predictably dense on winter weekends.

Fun Fact

Utah has trademarked "Greatest Snow on Earth" as an official state slogan, making it one of the few states in the country to hold intellectual property rights over its own license plate tagline. The phrase appears on multiple current plate designs and dates back to the 1960s tourism campaign that put Utah skiing on the national map.
